Emergency Department
Renovations to South County Hospital’s Emergency Department began in March 2021 to create a more efficient care path from entry, to triage, to examination, to discharge. Now complete, patients find the triage process to be much quicker, allowing triage nurses to fast track patients based on the level of care needed.
The improved flow for patients promotes less wait time, more efficient triage process, and fewer discharge/transfer delays.
Here's what you'll find ...
ATTENTIVE
First point of contact is with a trained medical staff for patient queuing based on medical priority
A first-stage ‘Universal Care Platform’ bypasses triage allows for direct placement whenever bays are available. Brings registration, providers, and services direct to patient, reduces length of stay, and wait time
During high-volume periods, a new second triage space speeds assessment and placement
CALM
Natural lines of sight improved for staff supervision of triage, waiting, and public restroom
Waiting environment improvements include:
- Separate areas for quiet space and TV viewing
- Higher quality seating
- Higher performing acoustics
- White noise generation
- Reduction of visual clutter
READY
Distinct seating areas for respiratory patients waiting during a pandemic event
Air exhaust system includes family waiting/grieving room, providing further protection of patients and family members who are waiting
Modified areas to be ‘bariatric capable’ for future Center of Excellence accreditation
EFFICIENT
New four (4) bay Fast-Track Unit supports direct bedding process in two ways:
- Preserves core bays for higher acuity patients
- Allows for faster turnover of bays when patients are ready for discharge but awaiting ride/transport
